The RDA Summer Dance Intensive--Seattle
featuring the Craft of Choreography Conference)

Tuesday, June 17 through Saturday, June 28, 2008

Each year, Regional Dance America sponsors a National Choreography Conference.  At the conference, a renowned master choreographer and musicologist guide budding choreographers through a series of choreographic problems and solutions.  Participating dancers, in addition to two or three technique classes per day, work with the choreographers on the various projects and perform the studies at an informal workshop performance held each evening.

  • Every RDA member dancer is welcome to attend.  Scholarships are awarded at the audition class held during the annual festival.
  • This year's Conference will be at PNB’s Francia Russell Center in Bellevue.
  • Fly into SEATAC on Monday, June 16 and depart Saturday, June 28.
  • The Director of Choreography is Diane Coburn Bruning.  You can read about her at www.chamberdance.org/aboutus_artists.html
  • Nicholas Ade, Director of PNB School will teach ballet every 2nd day – alternate days will be guest teachers from PNB!  Diana Law will teach jazz, and I’m still working on getting a wonderful modern teacher.  Patricia Barker will be a lecturer as will Dr. Alan Woodle, podiatrist for PNB.
  • There is one day off, Sunday 22nd.  Everyone will be bussed into Seattle where we will take a tour of the city (both on land and water!), have lunch and explore Seattle Center including the Space Needle, and a tour of PNB’s main facility – The Phelps Center.
  • The schedule is 2 classes and then work with 3 choreographers per day and then perform every night!
